सामान्यतः उपनयन संस्कार खालील वयात केला जातो:

उपनयन संस्कारासाठी बटूस “गुरुबल” असणे आवश्यक मानले जाते. म्हणजेच, गुरु-कृपा व अनुकूल ग्रहस्थिती असताना हा संस्कार केल्यास त्याचे फल अधिक प्रभावी ठरते.
म्हणूनच योग्य मुहूर्त काढून उपनयन संस्कार करणे अत्यंत आवश्यक असते. याचबरोबर आजकाल अनेक पालक शोधतात – उपनयन खर्च, जेणेकरून शास्त्रोक्त विधी योग्य नियोजनात आणि पारदर्शक पद्धतीने पार पडू शकेल.

संपूर्ण विधीबद्दल माहिती

उपनयन संस्काराची सुरुवात ही चौल कर्मापासून (केस कापण्यापासून) केली जाते.

• मातृभोजन हा उपनयन संस्कारातील अत्यंत भावनिक विधी आहे. या विधीत आई बटूला आपल्या ताटात जेऊ घालते.यानंतर बटू कधीही आईसोबत एकाच ताटात जेवत नाही.याच वेळी आठ बटू किंवा लहान मुलांना भोजनासाठी बसवले जाते.
• बटूला पारंपारिक पोशाख परिधान करून मिरवणूक काढली जाते व त्यानंतर मंगलाष्टक म्हंटले जातात  व सू मुहूर्त केला जातो व गुरुजी वेदोक्त म्हणून बटूस आशीर्वाद प्रदान करतात
• वडील आपल्या मुलाला सोबत विधींसाठी बसतात व जानवे परिधान करणे,मेखला बंधन, दंड घेणे,होम हवन,गायत्री उपदेश,वेदारंभ असे विधी करतात..
• भिक्षावळ विधी ज्यात पहिली भिक्षा आई मुलाला देते व नंतर उजव्या पायाचे तीर्थ म्हणून ग्रहन करते व त्यानंतर सर्व नातेवाईक भिक्षा देतात.ज्यातून नम्रता, शिस्त आणि सामाजिक जाणीव शिकवली जाते.
• शेवटी मुलगा आचार्य व वडीलधाऱ्यांचे आशीर्वाद घेऊन संस्कार पूर्ण करतो.

संपूर्ण उपनयन संस्कार साधारणतः ३ ते ४ तास चालतो.

What is Upanayan Sanskar and Why Is It Performed?

Upanayan Sanskar is one of the sixteen major Hindu sacraments and is considered a multidimensional and highly significant ritual performed to enhance a child’s intellectual capacity, maturity, and discipline.
This sanskar marks the beginning of a crucial phase in a boy’s life, from which his formal journey of learning and spiritual development begins.

Upanayan Sanskar is also known as Yajnopavit Sanskar, Vratabandh, Maunjibandhan, or Janve Sanskar.

When Should Upanayan Sanskar Be Performed?

According to the scriptures, the age for Upanayan Sanskar varies based on tradition and lineage.
Generally, the sanskar is performed at the following ages:

• 5 years
• 8 years
• 11 years
• 13 years

For the Upanayan Sanskar, it is essential that the child attains “Guru-bal” (mental readiness and discipline for learning).
Therefore, performing the ritual at a proper Shubh Muhurat is considered necessary.

Complete Ritual Process – What Happens?

• The Upanayan Sanskar begins with Chaul Karma (ritual hair cutting).
• Matru Bhojan is one of the most emotional rituals of the ceremony. During this ritual, the mother feeds the child from her own plate. After this, the child traditionally does not eat from the same plate as the mother again. At the same time, eight young boys are seated and served food.
• The child is dressed in traditional attire, after which a procession is taken out. This is followed by the chanting of Mangalashtakas, declaration of the auspicious moment, and Vedic blessings by the priest.
• The father sits alongside the child and performs important rituals such as:
• Wearing of the Sacred Thread (Janve)
• Mekhala Bandhan
• Holding of the Dand
• Havan (fire ritual)
• Gayatri Mantra Upadesh
• Vedarambh (formal beginning of Vedic studies)
• The Bhikshaval ritual follows, where the mother offers the child his first alms.
• The ceremony concludes with the child receiving blessings from the Acharya and elders.

The complete Upanayan Sanskar typically takes 3 to 4 hours.

The total dakshina for the complete Upanayan Sanskar, including 90% of the required puja materials, is ₹11,000/-.
An advance booking amount of ₹1,100/- is required. The remaining dakshina can be paid after the ceremony is completed.
